WARUM SIND WHY ARE HIKING POLES/ TREKKING POLES IMPORTANT?
Once you've experienced the advantages of modern trekking poles or hiking poles, you won't want to go without them. It is scientifically proven that hiking poles reduce strain on the muscles. This means your body is more efficient and can endure longer. In addition to relieving the muscles, hiking poles also reduce stress on the joints. The hips, knees, and ankles are less stressed. Heavy backpacks often lead to poor posture. Hiking poles relieve the back and shoulders and promote an upright posture. This also improves your breathing. In snow, mud, ice, or rubble, poles improve your stability.
HOW LONG SHOULD HIKING POLES BE?
The correct length of hiking poles is important for comfort and efficiency while hiking. A common method to determine the right length is the 90-degree rule. Standing upright on flat ground, your elbow should form a 90-degree angle. To determine the exact size, you can also use the pole length guide on our website. Just enter your height and select the activity, and you will find the optimal length. Depending on the terrain, you can adjust the poles. When going uphill, the poles can be shortened slightly to ensure better power transfer, while going downhill, it's useful to extend them a bit to improve balance.
HIKING POLES MADE OF CARBON OR ALUMINUM?
Most of our hiking poles are made of high-strength aluminum shafts, carbon, or a combination of carbon and aluminum. The high-strength aluminum shafts are prepared and hardened using a special process developed by LEKI. This gives our aluminum poles exceptional stability and makes them less sensitive to impacts. The good balance of durability and performance makes them the ideal companion for long hikes and high-altitude tours. Carbon fibers are about 8 times thinner than a human hair and are produced using a technology-intensive process. Our carbon hiking poles are extremely light and have high bending resistance. They are the right choice if you're looking for maximum performance and minimal weight.
FOLDING OR TELESCOPIC HIKING POLES?
Folding poles have a much smaller packing size (around 40 cm) and a lighter weight compared to standard hiking poles. During climbing sections, you can easily store them in your backpack. LEKI folding poles are extremely reliable and easy to use thanks to cutting-edge technology. Three-piece or telescopic poles are the classic choice among hiking poles. They are usually a bit cheaper than the high-tech folding poles but have a slightly larger pack size.
