WHY ARE TOURING POLES IMPORTANT?

Since touring poles need to have different properties than ordinary hiking or ski poles when climbing, there are models specially developed for touring. Since touring combines different sports, your poles also need to be particularly flexible. Whether on descents, ascents or flat passages, in deep snow or on the piste, your touring pole is suitable for all conditions.

CARBON OR ALUMINIUM?

A large part of our ski poles consists of high-strength aluminum shafts. These are prepared and hardened in a process specially developed by LEKI. This gives the aluminum shafts maximum stability and allows them to withstand extreme conditions. Aluminum poles are less sensitive to impacts and edge cuts and are therefore very durable.

Carbon fibers are about 8 times thinner than a human hair and are produced in a technology-intensive process. Thanks to this high-quality raw material, our carbon canes are extremely light and have a high bending strength.

WHICH GRIP SYSTEM IS THE RIGHT ONE?

The optimal grip ensures that the touring pole sits ideally in the hand when walking uphill. Most of our touring poles are equipped with the Aergon. The edgeless grip head of the Aergon is ergonomically shaped and extremely comfortable. It also has an adjustable loop with safety release that can prevent injuries.

WHAT IS THE USE OF A GRIP EXTENSION?

A grip extension offers you the possibility to quickly change your grip in steep passages without having to adjust the pole length.

WHAT CAN THE BINDING BASKET DO?

The binding basket is a plate specially developed for touring skiers with a short edge for adjusting the climbing aids and a long edge for scraping icy skins. It can be changed effortlessly by hand and is the ideal touring plate.

ADJUSTABLE OR FIXED LENGTH?

For skiing, a fixed-length pole is the optimal choice. Once you have found the right length, you don't really need to adjust your poles. For ski tourers we recommend flexible variable poles, as the poles should be much shorter when going uphill than when going downhill. For children and young people, poles that grow with them are also useful.

HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT POLE LENGTH?

A rule of thumb says that the pole is the right length when it is placed vertically on the ground and your upper and lower arm form a 90° angle. If you are still unsure or would like to have the length calculated exactly, we also have a pole length advisor on our website. Simply enter your height and select the type of sport and you will find out the optimum length.
